Ottawa – March 30, 2017 – betterU Education Corp. (the “Company” or “betterU”), (TSXV:BTRU), is pleased to announce that Satnam Singh has joined betterU as a Brand Ambassador to support the value of access to quality education through betterU.

Satnam Singh

Satnam Singh’s story can be seen on Netflix. “One in a Billion” is about a young man achieving the impossible and ultimately being drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 2015. His story however goes beyond basketball and into his struggles with education at an early age as well as after he arrived in the USA. “I was watching Netflix when I came across Satnam’s story and was inspired by him. I could personally relate to his struggles and decided that he and I needed to connect. I am thrilled that Satnam and betterU will be working together to support betterU’s vision for educating India”, said Brad Loiselle, President and CEO of betterU.

Education has the power to change people’s lives and unfortunately there are many obstacles for many people in the emerging markets. betterU is working to bring together education leaders to support the mass markets as well as successful leaders that understand the value of education and are driven to support our efforts in helping educate India. Satnam Singh is an example of greatness that might have never been realized if it wasn’t for his talent in basketball. He is now leveraging his successes in life and his career to support the importance of education. “Like most Indians, my childhood days and nights were filled with learning. Looking back now, I wish I would have had access to leading global education programs that could support my global ambitions. When Mr. Loiselle connected with me about his vision for betterU and how I could support them in India, it was an opportunity I could not pass by”, says Satnam Singh.

About Satnam Singh

Satnam Singh Bhamara (born December 10, 1995) is an Indian professional basketball player for the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League. He became the first player from India to be drafted into the NBA when the Dallas Mavericks chose him with the 52nd overall pick in the 2015 draft. At 7 ft 2 in (2.18 m) and 290 lb (132 kg), Singh plays the center position. He played high school basketball at IMG Academy, a private athletic training institute headquartered in Bradenton, Florida. He attracted attention from media outlets since he was as young as 14 years old, and his career at IMG helped put him on the radar for NBA teams.

In April 2015, after being deemed ineligible for academic scholarships to play in the NCAA, Singh declared for the 2015 NBA draft, going on to be selected with the 52nd pick by the Dallas Mavericks on June 25, 2015. With that, Singh became the first Indian-born player to be drafted into the NBA, the first player since the 2005 NBA draft to enter the draft without playing in college, overseas professionally, or in the NBA Development League;the first player to be drafted directly from high school as a postgraduate, and the first player from high school to be drafted since the league instituted age restrictions.
